Children's Privacy Policy
Effective October 29, 2026 · version children-privacy-2026-10-29b
This policy explains how AI Learning Library (ailearninglibrary.org) handles information about children, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Operator: AI Learning Library (David Welsh), Florida · seenly721@gmail.com.
Parents are in charge
- Children under 13 cannot sign up on their own. Our sign-up page asks for birth year, and anyone under 13 is directed to ask a parent.
- A parent or legal guardian (18+) creates a family account and starts a paid membership with their own credit or debit card. Under the FTC's COPPA Rule, a monetary transaction with the parent's card that notifies the account holder is an approved way to verify parental consent. We record that successful payment (date and time, cardholder name, our payment processor's payment ID, card brand and last 4 digits, and this policy's version) as the parent's verifiable consent. We never see or store the full card number.
- Before each child profile is created, the parent also confirms their account password, checks the consent statements, and signs with their full legal name. We can't add a child without an active paid parent membership. We record the date and time, method, and policy version of each consent.
- Kids sign in through the parent's account (the parent switches to the child) or on a family device with the parent's email, the child's nickname, and a 4-digit PIN. Children never have their own email or password.
What we collect from or about a child
- First name or nickname, age, grade, and a picture icon chosen from a fixed set (no photos).
- The learning topics they request, the course plans built for them, module progress, and questions typed to the AI professor with its answers.
- A strictly necessary sign-in cookie. Kids' pages load no analytics, advertising, tracking, or other third-party scripts.
We do not ask children for their last name, address, school, phone, email, photos, or location. If a child types personal details into a professor question, our system blocks the question before it's stored or sent to the AI.
How we use it
Only to provide the lessons: building age-appropriate courses, saving progress, showing the parent dashboard, and answering professor questions. We never sell children's information, use it for advertising, or build marketing profiles. Speech input (microphone) is turned off in kid mode.
Who we share it with
Only service providers that run the site for us: hosting (Vercel), database (Neon), payments (Stripe, which processes the parent's card; no child information is sent to Stripe), and our AI provider, which processes a child's course topics and professor questions to generate lessons and answers. We don't disclose children's information to anyone else except as required by law.
Parent rights
- Review and export: see a child's courses, progress, hours, mastery checks and professor questions on the family dashboard, and download all of the child's data as a file.
- Delete and withdraw consent: delete a child's profile and all of their data at any time from the dashboard. This permanently removes it and withdraws consent. We keep only a record that consent was given and later withdrawn (no child name).
- Controls: turn the AI professor on or off, set a daily question limit, and choose allowed subjects.
- You can also contact us at seenly721@gmail.com to exercise these rights.
Retention and security
We keep a child's data only while the parent keeps the child's profile, and delete it when the parent deletes the profile or the family account. PINs and passwords are stored as secure hashes and all traffic uses HTTPS.
Changes
If we change how we collect, use, or share children's information, we'll update this policy and ask parents for new consent before applying the change to their child.
